Hi! My name is Rabab Ahsan, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Nursing at Curtin University. I am thrilled to be running for the position of Faculty of Health Sciences Representative in the Student Guild.

My involvement in the university community, including my role as Co-Social Chair for the Nursing and Midwifery, Paramedicine, and Oral Health Therapy Students Society and as Events Manager for the Bangladeshi Student's Association, has provided me with valuable insights into the needs and aspirations of our students. These roles have fuelled my passion for advocating on behalf of my peers and creating a vibrant, inclusive campus environment.

I believe that effective representation is essential for fostering a supportive university community, as it ensures all students feel seen and heard. As a candidate for the Faculty of Health Sciences Representative, I am committed to advocating for the needs of every student within our faculty. I understand that, while our university strives to meet our needs, there are still challenges that students face, especially in the health sciences field. As a nursing student, I have firsthand experience with issues such as unpaid placements, the financial burden of extra courses, the cost of health and legal checks and as well as significant costs associated with parking during placements. Moreover, as an international student, I am acutely aware of the additional expenses that can make these challenges even more daunting. Therefore, my goal is to push for better support and resources, ensuring that all students have a fair and equitable experience.

Additionally, I will work towards improved pay rates for placements once payments begin in 2025. My goal is to push for higher compensation and to ensure that these benefits are extended to all allied health students and international students who have not yet been included.

If elected, I will work to strengthen academic support through initiatives like peer mentoring programs, improve communication between faculty and students, expand professional development opportunities, and promote inclusivity and diversity within our faculty. I am committed to being a proactive and approachable representative who listens to your concerns and works tirelessly to enhance the student experience. Together, we can build a stronger, more supportive community within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Thank you for considering me for this role. I am eager to represent and serve you.
