Hello lovely people! My name is Morgan, and my pronouns are they/them. I’m currently in my third year of a Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Science, majoring in the food science stream. I’m running to be the 2025 Queer Officer.
Ok but why should you vote for me? As a member of the queer community, I understand all too well the hardships and challenges that we face on a daily basis, not only at uni, but also in our personal and professional lives. I have spent many an hour trying to independently communicate with Curtin University about my challenges and ways to change them, all to no avail. While I can’t change the world, I do want to make our university environment a place of inclusivity and warmth. I want to continue the community and environment built by previous Queer Officers and continue to work towards the things that matter.
If elected, I aim to continue the work towards the Stop Deadnaming campaign, as improve the access to the limited gender-inclusive services on campus. Having to trek across campus to use an all-gender bathroom, while good for my exercise, is unacceptable. I also believe it is important to increase the number of staff completing Ally training, including increasing the access to resources. While all of my tutors are accepting of my identity, I know first-hand the number of mistakes made by my teaching cohort, which can be rectified by providing them with the resources to further their understanding.
