Hi, I’m Emily Lassam and I’m running for Guild Councillor with Left Action - Free Palestine. I am a Pro-Palestine and socialist activist and study history at Curtin. I have spent the last 11 months attending and building student contingents to the demonstrations for Palestine in the city and was part of the Gaza solidarity encampment at Curtin where we built the biggest rallies on campus for Palestine ever.
I’m running for Guild Councillor because the Guild needs more activists who are dedicated to fight for students’ rights and against oppression and inequality. Left action - Free Palestine are the only genuine left wing activist ticket who want to turn the guild into a fighting force that can actually push back cuts to our education, staff and increased fees.
I think the Curtin Student guild should take a leading role in fighting Curtin universities ties to weapons companies arming Israel and their genocide and mobilise students to demand these ties are cut.
The Curtin guild should also fight the exorbitant fees forced upon international students, the more than doubling of the international student visa cost and the outrageous planned cap of 270 000 international students planning to be implemented next January.
I would use my role as guild councillor to build campaigns that oppose our university and their drive to profit off international students, genocide and our education altogether and fight for students and against injustice!
