Dylan Storer

president

G’day! My name is Dylan Storer (he/him). I’m in my fourth year at Curtin, studying Journalism, and I’m thrilled to be running to be our next Guild President with Illuminate!

Growing up and attending the local public school in a small, remote northern WA town, I was raised with the values of fighting for better, standing with your community, and leaving nobody behind. I’ve put those values to work as a journalist reporting on natural disasters and First Nations rights, a volunteer human rights educator in schools across WA, a campaigner in the WA environment movement, and as a Curtin Guild Councillor.

Illuminate Guild’s work for students and with students. We’re regular people from all walks of life who have jobs, rent to pay, and the ever-increasing cost of living to deal with.

Do you feel we keep paying more to the uni but get less in return? Do you think it’s fair that, while students can’t afford to eat or put a roof over our heads, the Vice Chancellor gets to take home over $1 Million a year in salary and allowances?

My highest priority as your next Guild President will be fighting for the cost-of-living relief which will make uni cheaper and relieve some of the burden on students.

Illuminate plans to provide more free meals to students every week on campus and to deliver more and cheaper meal deals at the cafes. We will take on dodgy companies like UniLodge, which extort students wanting a roof over our heads to line their greedy pockets.

We believe that all students, no matter their circumstances, should have access to free andaccessible (no wait times!) mental, dental and physical health care and we will push the uni to expand and better fund Curtin Health to do just that.

Clubs and free events are the heart and soul of campus-affordable places to make friends and get the most out of uni. I’m excited by Illuminate’s plan to support and fund the clubs you love and to run free events on campus every week!

As your President, I’ll lead a team dedicated to enhancing your educational experience. We’ll push to modernise course content, ensure every student receives meaningful feedback onassessments, and secure a second tuition-free week each semester. Illuminate is committed to making sure your education is relevant, engaging, and supportive of your success.
