The Curtin Student Guild has made a submission to the Senate Education and Employment Legislation Committee in response to its inquiry into the Education and Other Legislation Amendment (Abolishing Indexation and Raising the Minimum Repayment Income for Education and Training Loans) Bill 2022 (bill) by 24 February 2023.
The bill seeks to amend the Higher Education Support Act 2003, Social Security Act 1991, Student Assistance Act 1973, Trade Support Loans Act 2014, and VET Student Loans Act 2016 to improve the fairness of various tertiary and vocational education loan schemes by raising the minimum repayment threshold for these loans and tying it to the median wage, as well as removing the indexation of these loans. The committee is due to report on 17 April 2023.
