Club Marketing

Students won't know what awesome things your club is up if you don't tell them! Find out how to promote your club and get more members.

CLUB MARKETING

Engage with your club members, create value and promote your club to students!

  • Guild Branding
  • Your Club Brand
  • Email
  • Social Media
  • Content Creation
  • Creating a Community
  • Merchandise
  • Promoting Your Events
  • Posters on Campus

If you can't find what you're after, please email the Club Support Staff via clubs@guild.curtin.edu.au.

GUILD BRANDING

Your club operates under the Guild brand, so all promotional materials must include the Guild logo (NOT the Curtin Logo).

This also helps students recognise your club as Guild-affiliated, ensures consistency and protects the Curtin brand.

Key Rules:

  • Use the Guild logo for all club posters, banners, social media, and merchandise.
  • Do NOT use the Curtin Masterbrand logo unless you have formal approval from Curtin. Approval is granted case by case - Contact Club Support to advise why you'd like to apply.

Important Update!!

We've updated the Guild logo in semester 2, 2024. Clubs will need to download the new Guild logo and:

  • Update any digital designs you have in the works for future promotional material.
  • If you have an old Guild logo design on your banners or other merch, there is no need to purchase new items, please simply update your designs so that the correct logo is used when it comes time to replace your assets.

Guild Logo & Guidelines

Choosing a logo file type

When it comes to design, having the right logo file type for a specific purpose is important. Here’s a quick summary of logo use instructions including the best file format for every purpose:

  • Unless space is an issue, please use the Guild's primary logo.
  • The secondary logo is to be used when verticle space is limited.
  • There is no limit at large scale, but be careful at smaller sizes. If legibility is an issue, it’s too small. Recommended minimum size is 40px for screen, and 20mm in print.
  • Please change out our old logo on exisiting documents with the revised version. No need to buy new banners, just remember to update your design next time you replace your equipment.
  • If you’re using our logo for any digital purpose — from PowerPoint presentations to watermarks on images — choose PNG files.
  • The best logo file formats for printing business cards, brochures, clothing, swag, and more, are vector files. Use SVGs if they’re accepted by the printer you’re using — if not, send an EPS or PDF.
  • The best logo file format for a transparent background is PNG and SVG.
  • If you’re sending your logo to a designer to make changes, send them SVG or EPS file formats unless they request otherwise.

Do not:

  • distort the logo
  • rotate
  • change the colours
  • change the layout of the logo
  • change the font of the logo

Posters on Campus

All Guild-registered clubs and societies can submit poster designs to the Club Support Team for upcoming events or campaigns to be distributed throughout the Guild Precinct in the Guild's weekly poster run. Reveiw the Club Poster Guidelines for more details about:

  • what you can and can't do with your posters around campus,
  • a list of public notice board locations if distributing yourself.

Guild Logos

YOUR CLUB BRAND

A brand is not just a logo. It's all the things that make up what your club is about and allows people to recognise who you are and what you do.

Create a style guide

Use the same fonts, similar colour palette and include your logo and the Guild logo on promotional materials. When you consistently use the same colours and logo, students will begin to recognise the content as belonging to your club. Branding guidelines shouldn't limit your creativity, refresh as needed but be consistent.

Need help choosing colours? Try coolors.co or paletton.com.

Your club logo
It should be simple, clean, recognisable and yours! Don’t make it too complicated.

  • Learn how to make a logo.
  • How to choose the correct file type for each purpose (digital, merchandise etc).

Tone of voice
Don’t be afraid to use casual language and slang or a more professional tone – it’s all about who you are as a club and who your audience is. Use common sense. Don’t be rude, don’t use derogatory language, etc.

Always re-read what you’re saying and ensure that people will interpret it the way you intend them to!

EMAIL

Always send a welcome email to new club members. It’s nice to feel acknowledged, especially if they’ve paid a membership fee to join your club – treat them like your customers!

Encourage them to get connected on social media to stay up to date with upcoming events and activities. Social media as is often the first interaction potential members have with your club - make sure there's something happening there!

Mailchimp has a free option that allows you to have up to 2,000 email contacts. You can upload your member list from your signup spreadsheet and easily send them emails, promotions and news about upcoming events.

If you are not using Mailchimp, or a similar program, make sure your putting your contacts in the BCC field and not the TO field when sending a normal email. This hides the email addresses so your members won’t be able to check out other members’ contact details.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Having at least one social media presence is essential for your members to engage with your club, learn about events and to encourage potential members to join. No one wants to join a club that doesn’t do anything!

Club Accounts

Don't try to have a profile on every social media platform. Less is more! We suggest focusing on one or two platforms that your members actively use. Most Guild Clubs find Facebook and Instagram provide the best reach with manageable workloads.

  • Tag @curtinguild and collaborate with @curtinguild.clubs on your posts and stories to help reach more students.
  • Make sure your @username is the same across all platforms where possible to make it easier for students to find you.
  • Use an official club email address when signing up so future committee members can access the account.
  • Include "Guild Club" or "@curtinguild" in your profile bio so students can see you're Guild-affiliated.
  • Use your club logo as your profile picture so students can easily recognise your club.

Guild Accounts

  • @curtinguild - Promotes all Guild services, departments, campaigns & outlets.
  • @curtinguild.clubs - the Guild's dedicated Instagram account for promoting registered Guild Clubs, events and opportunities.

Registered Curtin Guild Clubs can increase their reach by collaborating with us on Instagram and tagging us in Stories.

How to get involved

  • Follow @curtinguild.clubs
  • Posts: Invite @curtinguild.clubs as a collaborator when publishing Instagram posts for events and major club activities.
  • Stories: Tag @curtinguild.clubs in your Instagram Stories for potential resharing.
  • Check Links: Ensure any website, registration or "link in bio" links are working before requesting promotion.
  • Follow Guild branding requirements when creating promotional material.

As this account supports more than 100 Guild Clubs, all collaboration requests are reviewed by the Guild and approved at our discretion. While we encourage clubs to collaborate regularly, not all requests will be accepted.

Priority may be given to content that:

  • Promotes upcoming club events and activities.
  • Highlights significant club achievements or initiatives.
  • Meets Guild branding and content guidelines.
  • Aligns with the purpose and content schedule of the account.

Please note that collaboration requests are assessed based on content suitability and available capacity. Clubs may not receive individual feedback if a request is not approved.

CONTENT CREATION

Make sure you're posting regularly with updates about what your club is doing, upcoming events and memes! Don't spam your feed. Quality over quantity.

  • Students want to connect with others, share stories and get involved. Post content that facilitates conversation and discussion (e.g. interesting articles, pictures, videos, polls). Avoid too much advertising.
  • Pick the days you’re going to post and stick with it (e.g. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm). Consistency is key to developing an authentic and organic following.
  • Be authentic, not #influencer. Share your genuine updates from your club community and activities that you’ve been hosting.
  • You are students talking to other students with a common interest. Write as if you're speaking to a real person.

Canva is a free and easy to use editing program that you can create content using templates to post. Make an account for the club and give access to the relevant committee members.

Use your own photos when possible, it's more personal. If not, use free stock images from: Pexels, Unsplash, Pixabay or Freepik.

Scheduling content
Schedule posts to Facebook and Instagram at the same time! Plan and schedule your content ahead of time to reduce stress and ensure you're posting consistently.

Create a monthly plan about the content topics you're going to post will greatly improve your overall engagement with your club.

Content ideas
Looking for ideas on what to post?

  • Introduce members of your committee
  • Do a giveaway, “tag a friend in the comments”, “Share this post for your chance to win”
  • Update on what your committee is working on
  • Ask members to share their thoughts on a topic
  • Host a FAQ where members send in questions

CREATING A COMMUNITY

Make your members feel like they belong to your club by offering them a sticker, card, wristband, t-shirt or something that identifies them as a member!

Getting followers
Send an email to your members asking to follow you on social media. Share the profile with your friends. Share the profile on your personal social media feeds and encourage people who are interested to keep updated there.

If you’re an industry club, follow companies within your field. This could allow you to make valuable industry connections and networking partnerships for your members. Slide into their DMs, arrange a meeting, event or giveaway with them. You don’t know until you ask!

Give value
Make sure your members know what benefits they get! Do you have some awesome discounts, free stuff, events, networking opportunities or friend hangouts?

MERCHANDISE

Explore companies to order some club merch to sell to members, or even giveaway at events like Guild O-day:

  • Stick with me, Kid - A local Perth provider that offers Guild club's a special discount with short turn arounds and small orders (which bigger companies often don't do. They provide things like stickers, badges, magnets, pocket mirrors, bottle openers, keyrings, phone grips, temporary tattoos. Don't have a design? They offer custom designs too!
  • Printful - Based in the Eastern states, ensure you provide a longer lead-in time for your orders. There's too many products to list,, so take a look at their offerings.
  • Tee Shirt Republic - Recommended as the best local tshirt printers in Perth.
  • Print Locker - Another tshirt priting company but a good option for small orders (yep, event one single shirt).
  • Add Value - Custom personalised & branded products such as totes bags, clothing, confectionary, drinkware, headwear, stationary, key rings, technology, lanyards and other novely items. This company provides great service.

Do you recomend another company or service that your club has used and recommends? Let us know by submitting a feedback form and we'll update this page!

PROMOTING YOUR EVENTS

We've got some advertising and marketing options to help spread awareness of your club events to more students.

Social Media

  • Make sure your club is active on social media on a regular basis to get students excited to attend your event. Prepare a campaign schedule.
  • If your members are active on Facebook, create a Facebook event to reach more students. Invite @curtinguild to be a co-host.
  • Create an event on your club's TidyHQ website before advertising it on social media. This allows students to access event information and registration details in one place and enables the Guild to share eligible events through the What's On webpage. Refer to instructions below under the website section.
  • Invite @curtinguild.clubs as a collaborator on Instagram event posts and tag in Stories for potential resharing. For full instruction see above Social Media section for Guild Accounts.

This approach keeps almost everything you already have, avoids duplication, and naturally introduces the new Instagram account without requiring a major rewrite of the page.

Website

Guild and Club Events are regularly advertised on the Guild's 'What's On' ebpage. Creating your event in TidyHQ helps students discover your activities, access event information and register online.

How to advertise your club event on the Guild website

  1.  Submit an Event Application. Don't forget that all club events and activities require Guild approval for liability coverage and safety management. This applies to activities held both on and off campus.
  2. Create your event in your TidyHQ Website. Log in to your club's TidyHQ account and navigate to Events > Create Event.
  3. The Club Support Team will update the Guild website on a regular basis to include eligible club events.

Need help creating an event in TidyHQ?

  • TidyHQ Help Article: Create an Event
  • Video Tutorial
  • Event images should be uploaded as a square (1:1 ratio) image for the best appearance across Guild and TidyHQ platforms. For example, minimum requirements are 2376 pixels x 2376 pixels.
  • For weekly or recurring events, create a separate event listing for each occurrence to ensure students can view accurate dates and details and to increase visibility.
