Hello!
I’m Ebony Whitney (She/Her), and I’m running to be your Guild President and National Union of Students (NUS) Delegate with Momentum!
I grew up in Collie, a small town in regional WA, before moving to Perth to study Law and International Relations. For two years, I called Vickery House home, where I met some incredible people through Guild clubs and societies and campus life. I loved living so close to campus and being part of that community, but I also saw firsthand where the student experience could be much better.
That experience helped drive me to get involved in student representation. Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a Guild Councillor and, this year, as your Faculty of Business and Law Representative. Through these roles, I’ve spoken with thousands of students about the issues affecting their education and everyday lives and worked hard to turn those conversations into real action.
I wrote the Guild’s submission calling for stronger protections for student renters and championed our housing campaign for fairer rents, safer accommodation and better living conditions. I pushed for Guild services to expand to Curtin’s City Campus, where I delivered a free period product dispenser and progress towards a new Equity Space. I’ve also worked on our parking campaign, which secured free parking during exams, and fought against unfair exam and assessment practices that create unnecessary barriers for students.
Now, I’m running for Guild President because I want to keep delivering.
Students deserve a Guild that fights for them every single day: on the cost of living, the quality of their education and the decisions that shape their university experience.
Momentum comes from a proud record of doing exactly that. Momentum representatives have helped deliver $5 Student Saver Meals, universal 11:59pm submission times, free exam-week parking and the return of a second Tuition Free Week.
These wins matter, but there is so much more to do.
We believe students deserve far better for the tuition and amenities fees they pay. Your education should be accessible, flexible and built around students, not simply what is easiest or most efficient for the University.
That’s why Momentum will fight for:
- 48-Hour Grace Periods for take-home assessments
- More Outdoor Study Spaces
- 40% Assessment Weighting Cap
- Free Exam Printing
- Extensions for students who are Working or Parents
- Free Breakfasts
- $10 cap on Cafe Central Meals
We will protect the wins students have already fought for, build on them and keep pushing Curtin to do better.
My team and I are here to listen, show up, work hard and fight for the changes students deserve.
