Hi, my name is Jack Washington. I’m running to be Guild President and a Delegate to the National Union of Students. I’m also a proud revolutionary socialist activist, and that’s why I’m running with Socialist Action this year.
There is a crying need for a socialist-run Curtin Student Guild. The far-right and Trump-style politics is on the rise. We're seeing the impacts of this everywhere in both our communities and our campus. Posters have been popping up promoting the white supremacist March for Australia rallies. Invasion Day this year was marred by a racist terrorist who attempted to lob a bomb into the crowd. Anti-migrant sentiment and Islamophobia is soaring. We’ve seen all of this in 2026, while it’s harder than ever for students to afford to live and study.
I believe that the way students can win on political and campus issues is to fight back. That means protests, grassroots organisation and student resistance. That’s why I want to build an activist Guild. We need a Guild that is prepared to fight back with the student body - not just to be wannabe civil statesmen above them - against student poverty and against anti-migrant bigotry. We need a Guild that will stand staunchly for the principles of free university education, solidarity and, yes - socialism: a democratic world for people, not for profit.
That’s why I’m running for President of the Curtin Student Guild. As a long-time socialist, I have been on the frontlines of protests against the far-right. I’ve been organising at the grassroots level to demonstrate solidarity for Palestine. To bring that fight for student rights and against anti-migrant racism to Curtin, vote for Socialist Action this election.
