WADE, Dylan (Momentum)

queer

Hiya, I’m Dylan (He/Him) and I’m a first year Social Work student!

I highly value community, advocacy and making sure everyone has a place where they feel like they belong. That’s why I’ve put my hand up to be your Queer Officer candidate with Momentum!

As a queer person who grew up in the regions, I understand how important it is to have access to a strong, welcoming queer community and to have people who are prepared to advocate for you. I also bring previous experience serving as a Chair Member for Pride groups, where I’ve had the opportunity to help build inclusive spaces and advocate for our community.

Advocacy is a genuine passion of mine. Fighting for an environment where everyone is respected and able to participate fully is not only what motivates me to run for Queer Officer, but also a major reason I chose to study Social Work.

If elected, I’ll work to make sure the Queer Department remains a strong, independent voice for queer students and that queer students themselves determine campaigns, events and priorities. Momentum will protect the autonomy of our Equity Departments and increase their funding so they can continue providing spaces, events, advocacy and community for the students they represent.

I will advocate for more gender neutral bathrooms and ensure Curtin’s systems properly recognise students’ names, pronouns, and gender identities. I’ll fight for stronger and clearer support for students experiencing homophobia, biphobia, transphobia or any other forms of discrimination, and make sure students know where to go when issues arise.

I’m organised, confident and adaptable, and I’m ready to use those skills to be a strong and unapologetic advocate for queer students at Curtin.

I’m here to listen to you, advocate on your behalf and champion a Curtin where every queer student can feel safe, supported and proud to be themselves.
