My name is Ammie, (She/Her) and I am a proud Noongar woman from Wadandi Boodja (the South-West).
I am running to be your First Nations Officer and for Guild Councillor with Momentum because I believe First Nations students deserve to feel supported, respected and heard throughout their university journey, and that Curtin University should continue to acknowledge, respect and embrace one, if not the oldest living cultures across the world.
As a First Nations student, I have faced the challenges that can come with moving away from culture, country and mob and entering a university environment that can feel unfamiliar and overwhelming. Therefore, I want to use my experiences to help make that transition easier for the First Nations students who come after me.
If elected for First Nations Officer, I will advocate for a university where First Nations students can succeed without having to compromise their culture or sense of belonging. I will work towards stronger First Nations student support, greater connection to culture and community, increased visibility of First Nations voices on campus, and better support for students transitioning into university and throughout their degrees.
As part of Momentum, I will also fight for practical changes that benefit all students, including a 48-hour assessment grace period, free breakfast every day, stopping the proposed uni merger, a $10 meal cap at Café Central, free exam printing, an expansion of CurtinLink services and affordable student accommodation.
Your culture, your voice and your education matter. I want to make sure First Nations students know that they belong here, and that we have a voice in shaping the university we want to see.
