G’day! I’m Dylan (He/Him), a journalism student from Fitzroy Crossing in Northern WA, and for the past two years I’ve had the incredible honour of serving as your Guild President!
Curtin has around 65 times as many students as the small town I grew up in. I came from the bush, didn’t even graduate high school, and somehow found my way to university and into the role of Guild President. That journey is exactly why I’m so passionate about education, opportunity and the values of this university.
I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together at Curtin: universal 11:59pm submission times, $5 meals, free parking during exam weeks, a new student kitchen, a new Clubs Hub, and a stronger fight for students being ripped off in housing. These are big, tangible wins that show what strong student representation can achieve.
Now I’m running with Momentum for the National Union of Students Delegate to take that same energy, experience and determination to the national student movement.
Students need a strong NUS fighting for affordable education, cost-of-living relief, better student support, stronger rights for international students and real action on housing. And with Curtin’s future under threat, we need a national union prepared to stand with us and fight against any proposal to merge Curtin with UWA and Murdoch.
It has been the honour of my life to represent our incredible, diverse Curtin community.
We’ve built enormous momentum together. I want to keep building on it and make sure Curtin students have a strong, fearless voice nationally.
