STEWART, Oliver (Momentum)

councillors

Hey!

I'm Oliver (He/Him) and I'm here to represent you, yes, you! I am running to be a Momentum Guild Councilor.

With the increasing cost of living pressures, not all students have the same opportunity to pursue education equally. Work-Education balance, cost of necessities, getting to campus on time, and lack of affordable parking are all factors that unnecessarily contribute to the overall financial stress of students. University is a place of promise, a facilitator for potential, and no one should be punished for economic instability.

A large part of what I value is service, so here's a bit about me. I have volunteered as a Buddhist librarian, and am currently training to go into prisons to talk about nonviolence. I have taught English to children, teenagers, adults and the elderly, gaining a diverse understanding of people’s different educational needs. Being a Guild Councillor will require me to understand the diverse experiences of students from all across campus. I want to listen to what you need and share that in the Guild’s peak decision making body.

As part of Momentum, my main focus is affordability for students which is why I will advocate for a $10 meal cap at Cafe Central, free breakfasts every day, increasing the Guild discounts and making student accommodation fairer and of better quality. I will also work alongside other Momentum representatives to stop the University Merger, as this is the biggest threat to our education in WA.
