Hi, I’m Atiya! I’m a Midwifery student who loves being involved in student life, meeting new people and learning about the different experiences and perspectives that make up our university community.
I’m running for the Guild because I want students to feel genuinely supported throughout their time at university. As a student midwife, I know how rewarding university can be, but I also know how difficult it can become when you’re balancing placements, study, assessments, work, finances and life outside of uni. I’d particularly like to advocate for greater support and recognition for students completing placements across all disciplines.
I’m also passionate about making sure students have access to their basic needs. Through my volunteering at Human Appeal and involvement in the university community, I’ve seen how practical initiatives can make a real difference. I’d love to continue supporting things like access to affordable food, free period products, financial and wellbeing support, and services that make university a little easier for students who are struggling.
Community is also really important to me. I’m currently helping to establish an Afghan student club at Curtin, and I’m involved with other student groups on campus. University should be more than attending classes and going home. It should be a place where students from all backgrounds can meet people, feel represented and find a community they belong to.
Most importantly, I don’t want to assume I already know what every student needs. I want to listen. If elected, I want to speak with students about what is actually affecting them and help make the Guild feel approachable, visible and relevant to everyday student life.
I’m running because I care about making university a more supportive, inclusive and connected experience, and I’d love the opportunity to represent you.
