Hi, I’m Ana Nikolic. I’m a Marine Science student and a socialist activist. I’m running with Socialist Action for the Science and Engineering Representative.
The climate crisis is worsening; each year we break new horrifying records and reach new tipping points. Droughts, fires, and extreme floods have become the new normal. Entire islands face evacuation. Thousands of people worldwide have already been displaced and killed.
Meanwhile in Australia, the Labor Party has done worse than nothing. They have seen the expansion of mining projects like Woodside’s North-West Shelf expansion and mining in the Jarrahdale Forest. They have approved the construction of data centres, which pollute surrounding communities and have committed to AUKUS, bringing nuclear weaponry to WA. The genocide in Gaza continues relentlessly, and Australia continues to provide F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel. All while Curtin strengthens its connections to mining and military operations that are destroying the planet.
To fight back against war and climate catastrophe, we need a Guild of activists who are willing to confront the university and its ties to mining and weapons companies. We need Socialists in the Guild.
