Hey everyone! My name is Hadiya Naeemi (she/her), I’m an Engineering student, and I’m running to be your 2027 Vice President Education.
I’m the current Guild Vice President Education and NUS WA Vice President. I’m also a co-founder and former President of the Curtin MENA Club, where I currently serve as Events Officer, and I’m an OCM for Curtin Women in Engineering.
When I started as VPE, I came into the role ready to learn. I got out there, spoke to students, listened to what was actually making university harder, and turned those conversations into campaigns.
This year, I’ve fought and won for free parking during exams, fought for paid pracs and placements, and continued pushing on a state level for a better centralised teaching placement system. I’m working to make sure Universal Submission Time becomes permanent, fought for stronger student rights and protections around AI, and launched a Unit Outline Review to hold Curtin accountable to its own academic policies. I’ve fought to adress the hidden costs of education. Students already pay thousands to study. You shouldn't be disadvantaged because you can't afford a lab coat, calculator, placement clothing or another compulsory item. That's why I'm working to introduce a free essential equipment hire system for students.
But there is so much more to do.
I’ll fight for fairer assessments: capping exams and major assessments at 40%, capping unnecessary hurdles, reducing harsh late penalties, faster and clearly outlined assessment feedback, and making sure students know what is expected of them before Census Date.
I’ll keep fighting for fairer placements: more paid prac and placement grants, travel support, better centralised placement systems and stronger protections for students completing compulsory unpaid work.
I’ll fight to make education more affordable: reducing hidden course costs, expanding access to free essential equipment, and fighting for cheaper and free transport options so the cost of getting to university or placement doesn't become another barrier to your education.
And I’ll keep fighting for student rights: fair and transparent use of AI from your teaching staff, clear academic policies, and a university that listens to students before making decisions that affect our education.
My time as VPE has taught me that student representation isn't just about sitting in meetings. It's about listening to students, taking their experiences into the rooms where decisions are made, and refusing to let their concerns be ignored.
Your income shouldn't determine the quality of your education. A compulsory placement shouldn't put you into financial hardship. One exam shouldn't determine your entire semester. And unnecessary barriers shouldn't stand between students and their degrees.
Education is a right. It should be accessible, equitable and designed to help students succeed not become another hurdle we have to overcome.
I've spent this year learning, listening and fighting for students.
I'm running again because I'm not finished yet.
