Kaya! Hello! I’m Gabby Maslin (she/her), a Physiotherapy student, and I’m running to be your Vice President of Education (VPE) and NUS Delegate with Momentum!
Over the past year, I’ve been working behind the scenes alongside community leaders to fight for paid placements, and we won! These reforms will make a real difference for allied health students completing compulsory placements as part of their degrees.
But this is only the first step. Placement poverty is still a reality for thousands of students, and Momentum will continue advocating for paid placements to be expanded to all disciplines, so no student is forced to choose between completing their degree and being able to afford to live.
If elected as your VPE, I’ll fight to make sure every student has the opportunity to succeed, feel supported and get the education they deserve.
My priorities include:
● 48-Hour Grace Periods for take-home assessments
● More Outdoor Study Spaces
● 40% Assessment Weighting Cap
● Free Exam Printing
● Extensions for students who are Working or Parents
● Free Breakfasts
● $10 cap on Cafe Central Meals
If you can’t tell, I strongly believe every student deserves a full belly and a fair go at their education!
I also believe students deserve clear, consistent and fair information about AI. AI is rapidly becoming part of university, workplaces and our broader community, yet we are too often left confused about what is and isn’t permitted. Momentum will ensure students are properly consulted on policies relating to AI and that expectations around its use are communicated clearly.
And fundamentally, students deserve high-quality teaching for the fees they pay. I, alongside the Momentum team, will advocate for teaching that is engaging, accessible and properly resourced, because your education should always come first.
I’d love the opportunity to be a strong voice for all 70,000 Curtin students on education issues next year, to listen to you, advocate for you, and fight for a university that gives every student the best possible chance to succeed.
