Hi! My name is Ollie (He/Him) and I am running for the position of Accessibility Officer.
A bit about me; when I was 18 months of age I was diagnosed with a very rare chronic condition called Lupus SLE, which meant I've grown up differently from ordinary young people and have lived different experiences. I have over five years of experience across the Education, Health and Community Sectors, representing the interest of young people. I am especially passionate about advocating for the needs of young people living with disabilities and those from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) backgrounds.
I have fought for causes such as advocating for increased funding to the Youth Disability Advocacy Network’s funding as an essential service as well as advocating for CaLD voices in Canberra as part of Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network’s FUSE Program. I have also worked with Child and Adolescent Health Services, Rare Care, Youth Affairs Council of WA, Curtin University and the University of South Australia, using my lived experiences to improve youth services and engagement. I also founded and facilitated inclusion workshops for young people; where I gained experience in public speaking, media, community panels and youth consultation.
If elected, my goal is to help streamline the CAP process, helping access across campus and reducing gradients. I aim to make signage brighter and better, improve on campus equity spaces, collaborate with major disability organisations to advertise major inclusive disability events in the calendar, take feedback and amplify the ever growing students with People with a Disability's Voice.
