Hey, I'm Kristel Ira Lao-as (She/Her) and I am running for the position of Guild Councillor with Momentum!
Last year, I had the privilege of serving as President of the Curtin Filipino Students’ Society (CFSS), where I worked to create a welcoming community for Filipino students and anyone wanting to get involved, make friends and feel more connected to campus life.
That experience showed me how important student clubs and communities are in making Curtin feel like more than just a place to study. They give students a chance to celebrate culture, build friendships, find support and create a real sense of belonging, especially for students who may be far from home or still finding their place at university.
I’m running for Guild Councillor because I want to help make sure every student has the opportunity to find their community at Curtin.
As part of the Momentum team, I'm campaigning for items that will benefit all students across Curtin's campuses. These items include:
- A 48-hour assessment grace period
- $10 meal cap @ Café Central
- Free breakfast every day
- Free Exam printing
- An increase in Guild discount from 10% to 15%
These are just some of the many that we hope to achieve if we are elected.
Guild Councillors have an important role in the Guild. These roles include discussing finance and governance, ensuring representatives fulfil their roles, monitoring the progress of Guild sub-committees, and discussing wider student issues and the actions we need to take to address them.
