Hi all! I'm Tom (He/Him), and I'm proud to be running for NUS Delegate this year! I'm a 3rd year History student and have served as Humanties Representative in 2025 & 2026.
I am strongly commited to building an NUS that represents your interests and pushes for real, powerful change. I believe the NUS has incredible potential to push for the interests of students on a national level. In my two years as Humanities Rep, I've developed an understanding of the many circumstances placing pressure on students today. In particular, I will focus upon improving and expanding paid placements, ensuring that all students on a professional placement are supported adequately. When students are forking out thousands for their units, fair support should be expected. I also aim to ensure that the NUS continues its fight against the 2021 "Job Ready Graduates" Scheme, a policy which has massively inflated the cost of degrees including humanities, law and communications.
I also believe in a critical approach to the NUS. Students are a social mass with a political interest, and it is the responsibility of the NUS to represent that interest nationally. That advocacy should not be impeded by factional squabbling and political dealings. As a delegate, I will fight for an NUS that truly serves student interest.
Together we can build an NUS that truly serves students, fighting for the causes that effect us most.
