Hello! My name’s Catherine (She/Her). I’m a Business student running to be a Guild Councillor with Momentum.
I’m running because I believe students deserve a real say in the decisions that shape our education. As an international student, I know how difficult it can be to adjust to a new environment while navigating university and the rising cost of living. I’ve seen firsthand how much of a difference strong student support and advocacy can make, and I want to fight for a university that puts students first.
I care about making university fairer and easier to get through. A policy I feel most strongly about is a 48-hour assessment grace period. Students balance university with work, family and other responsibilities, and not every setback is predictable enough to apply for an extension in advance. A short delay in submitting something you’ve worked hard on shouldn’t result in a disproportionate penalty. I also believe major assessment deadlines should be better coordinated, particularly when multiple assessments are clustered within a short period.
Most importantly, I want students to feel they can approach their representatives. We invest a huge amount of time, effort and money into being here, and students deserve to have their voices heard. For me, good representation starts with listening and understanding what students actually need.
If elected, I’ll take those concerns seriously, speak up when something isn’t right, and advocate for the changes students want to see. Feel free to reach out anytime!
