Hola, my name is Almendra (She/Her) and I’m an international student from a small coastal town in Peru. I am studying a double Bachelors of Arts in Professional Writing and Publishing & International Relations degree. In my off time I’m an all star cheerleader, avid reader, and beach goer (it reminds me of my home).
My time so far at Curtin has shown me that there are some key issues that need to be addressed, which is why I am running as a candidate for the National Union of Students (NUS) and Guild Council! I would love to make even the smallest difference and leave here knowing that the students who come after me will have a better and fairer university experience in a campus that welcomes them and provides them with the education and quality that they deserve.
If elected I will push for an improvement in the quality and accountability of student services and facilities to reflect the investment being made by students. As a NUS representative I will strongly campaign for fairer and up to standard student accommodation that is affordable, accessible, and is value for money.
As part of momentum I will advocate and campaign against the University Merger and push for benefits for all students such as a 48hr Assessment grace period, free exam printing, free breakfast everyday, and a $10 meal cap at cafe central, which will make university life easier and affordable for all students.
I hope to make Curtin a better University for all students so that no matter where they come from, everyone can have an amazing time and leave with lasting memories.
