Hey gorgeous people! I’m Zoe (she/her), a law and commerce student running for the position of Guild Councillor!
I want to help improve the experience of students on campus. As someone who has spent the last three years studying at Curtin, I understand the pressures and struggles you face and believe Curtin has the responsibility to alleviate and provide better support for us.
As a woman I have too often felt scared on and around campus, I call a friend while walking to my car, carrying my keys in hand. We shouldn’t have to change our behaviour and we should never feel uncomfortable in our place of study. If elected I will advocate for better amenities for women and increased safety measures at Curtin’s Bentley and Murray Street campuses.
I also want to protect the value and future of our education by advocating for limits on the use of AI in academic content. As AI becomes increasingly embedded in university life, its wider environmental impact needs to be considered so innovation does not come at the expense of sustainability.
Speaking of protecting the future of education, I believe there needs to be greater transparency around the proposed university merger and ensure students have a genuine voice in these decisions that could fundamentally change the university experience.
I lived on campus for two years, I understand the financial pressures students face. With the rising cost of living and increasing accommodation costs, I will advocate for more affordable student housing and ways to provide financial relief for these students.
The Guild has achieved so many important academic wins for Curtin students, including the 11:59pm Universal Submission Time, the return of two tuition free weeks, and I will push for free printing for exams, and free breakfasts so you can focus more on your learning, and less on other things that may get in the way.
