hi!! my name is khadija, i’m a first-year law & commerce (human resources) student, and i’m running to be your 2027 women’s officer!
growing up, i’ve always been conscious of the issues women face, both in our own communities and around the world. my own experiences have taught me how important it is to feel seen, heard and supported, particularly when your experiences aren’t always understood or taken seriously. this has shaped my passion for advocacy and my belief that genuine representation can make a real difference. i care deeply about the people and causes around me, and my involvement in advocacy, including advocating for palestine, has taught me the importance of using my voice and standing up for what i believe in. i also genuinely love connecting with people and hearing their experiences, and i want to bring that openness, compassion and determination to the women’s officer role.
as women’s officer, i want to focus especially on building community by creating more opportunities for women and non-binary students to meet, make friendships and feel connected at curtin. i want to organise a wider range of women-focused events and work alongside different clubs and student groups to make the women’s department more welcoming and accessible. i also want to advocate for better access to information and resources around women’s health, creating opportunities for students to have open, judgement-free conversations about issues that are often difficult to talk about.
most importantly, i want to create an accessible way for students to share their experiences, concerns and ideas with the women’s department, and ensure those issues are brought forward through guild advocacy. i want students to know that speaking up can lead to action.
i also want to build on the work of previous women’s officers, because good advocacy shouldn’t start from scratch every year. i want to recognise what has already been achieved, continue initiatives that students value, and work towards new changes where they’re needed.
i want to be someone you can actually approach. you shouldn’t need to know me personally to feel comfortable coming to me. whether you have an issue you want raised, an idea for curtin, or simply want someone to listen, i want to be that person.
i want to use this position to make a genuine difference to the experiences of women and non-binary students at curtin, and make sure the issues that matter to you are not overlooked.
