Hi, I’m Afnan, a third-year Electrical Engineering student, and I’m excited to be running for Guild Council.
I’m a member of several clubs on campus, and I genuinely believe clubs are the life of our campus. They’re where students make friends, find community, develop new skills and actually enjoy their university experience. I will fight for more funding, resources and support for clubs so they can run bigger and better events and create more opportunities for students to get involved.
As an engineering student, I also know how frustrating unnecessary academic barriers can be. I want to advocate for removing unnecessary exam and unit hurdles, making assessments fairer, and ensuring students aren’t held back by requirements that don’t genuinely reflect their understanding of a unit.
I also want to push for improvements to the things students use every day. That means better and cleaner labs, improved access to the software and equipment we need, better-maintained facilities, and bidets in campus toilets.
I’m running for Guild Council because I want to be someone students can actually come to with an issue, idea or concern and know that they’ll be listened to. Whether it’s something affecting your degree, your club, your facilities or your everyday experience on campus, I want to make sure those concerns are brought to the table.
There are so many small and big things that can make university better, and students are the ones who know what needs to change. I want to listen to students, represent what they actually want and turn those ideas into real improvements on campus!
