Hey! I’m Sarah Abed (she/her), a third-year Law and Journalism student, your 2026 Women’s Officer and Secretary of the Curtin MENA Club, and I’m running to be your next Vice President Activities and Events!
This year, I’ve experienced campus life from two different sides: as a Guild representative creating events and advocating for students, and as a club executive working to build a community of our own. Both roles have shown me what makes students want to get involved on campus, but also where we can do more. As Women’s Officer, I’ve organised social and awareness events, worked alongside clubs and collaborated with external organisations. As MENA Club Secretary, I’ve seen the amount of work club committees put in behind the scenes to create communities for students.
I want to bring both of those perspectives to VPA.
I want to see greater variety in the events we run and more opportunities for cultural, creative and community-led events that reflect the diversity of Curtin students. I also want students to have more opportunities to shape the events they actually want to see on campus.
For clubs, I want to make it easier to turn a good idea into a great event. I will advocate for better access to shared event equipment and resources, greater promotion of club events through Guild platforms, and stronger support for new and smaller clubs trying to establish themselves.
I also want student safety to be a bigger part of campus life. I will advocate for free and accessible naloxone (Narcan) on campus alongside harm-reduction education, giving students access to a potentially life-saving resource in an opioid emergency.
Most importantly, I want campus to feel like it belongs to the students who are here. Whether that means discovering a club you never knew existed, seeing your culture represented at an event or finding your community, there should always be a reason to get involved.
I’ve spent 2026 creating those spaces. Now, I want to do it on a bigger scale.
