Curtin University students will be joining young people across Australia and around the world in a Global Day of Action on March 15.

According to Curtin Student Guild President Finlay Nolan, students surveyed at the University’s recent Orientation Day reported that climate change was one of their top concerns.

“Our students are calling for action on climate change and for better government policies when it comes to the expansion of fossil fuels.

“We stand with all students in calling for our leaders, politicians and change-makers to listen and start tackling the biggest threat to our future,” she said.

As well as participating in the rally, the Curtin Student Guild will be hosting a barbecue for students on 11 March to encourage awareness of the rally.

Ms Nolan said that she encouraged all WA tertiary students to support secondary students who will walk out of their classrooms for the second time over this issue.

“The leadership of young people like Swedish student Greta Thunberg is inspiring and shows how the world’s youth can turn up the heat on politicians.

“It’s great to see that the rally will have the support of a growing number of unions including the National Union of Students, the National Union of Workers, National Tertiary Education Union, United Firefighters Union, Hospo Voice and the Victorian Allied Health Professionals Association,” she said.
