It has come to our attention that a group of Curtin students have been captured making racist and anti-Semitic remarks in an iLecture recording, which has subsequently been distributed widely among the Curtin community.

The Curtin Student Guild condemns all forms of racism and antisemitism. This is a multicultural campus, situated in a multicultural country, and there is no place here for discriminatory and exclusionary attitudes.

We understand that the university is taking the matter seriously, and that the students involved will be dealt with in accordance with their disciplinary processes. We urge the university to demonstrate its stated values of respect and integrity in this process by treating the matter with the sincere and considered attention it deserves.

Racist and antisemitic remarks - regardless of whether they are said with serious malicious intent or in jest - have the ability to hurt others and reinforce negative attitudes towards marginalised groups of people. We stand with students who have been targeted, bullied, or made to feel unwelcome on the basis of their race and culture.

If you are experiencing distress or anxiety please contact Curtin Counselling Services for support or assistance.
