Hello!
I'm Veronika Gobba (she/her) and I am studying International Relations and Economics. I am honoured to have served students in the Guild as the Vice President - Education for two terms. After two years of impactful advocacy and progress behind us, I am excited for the new executive candidates who are running with Illuminate in this election and I am back again to be in the running to serve as a Guild Councillor in 2025.
I am proud to have engaged in campaigns and the national universities accords, making sure things like getting rid of the Job Ready Graduates package and paid practicals were up on the agenda for change, and I'm proud to say that Illuminate’s collective efforts made a difference. From the introduction of self-certifications and then the protections of that mechanism when the university wanted to take them away, to getting the university to agree that they must return the second tuition-free week they took away. Illuminate has always held the university accountable, fought for students rights when the university thought no one was watching and continuously built our student union to deliver the best student experience for Curtin students.
I was inspired to join Illuminate 3 years ago because I realised so many privileges I enjoyed at Curtin were hard fought and provided by an Illuminate Guild. I am accountable to seeing out projects that myself and my comrades have been building for students today and into the future.
If elected, I am committed to:
- Opening up a physical clubs hub;
- Delivering weekly meal giveaways to students;
- Pushing for high quality assessment feedback and proper time allocation for our academics to provide a high quality learning experience;
- Pushing for a playground on campus and other amenities that students really want (accessible bathrooms, classrooms and high quality accommodation); and
- Building the movement for Curtin to be the ethical university it claims to be. We need our university to use its power to cut ties from weapons, war profiteers & climate criminals.
