Hi! I’m Ankita Modi (she/her), a Joint Doctoral Scholar at Curtin University, and I’m really excited to be running for Guild Councillor.
As an international student from India, I’ve experienced firsthand what it’s like to study far from home. I want to turn those experiences into something positive for all students, making sure everyone feels supported, heard, and empowered. Over the years, I’ve taken on leadership roles at IIT Madras and Manipal Institute of Technology, and I’m currently representing postgraduate science and engineering students at Curtin. These experiences have taught me how to listen, lead, and make real change and I’m ready to bring that energy to the Guild.
If elected, I’ll work to create more career fairs and technical events that connect students with industry professionals. Networking is key, and I want to help students build strong connections that open doors to opportunities abroad. I’ll also advocate for better access to healthcare on campus. Long wait times can really affect our well-being and ability to focus. I’ll push for a smoother appointment system, more telehealth options, and increased staff availability so students can get the care they need, when they need it.
Another priority for me is financial support for postgraduate students. Research delays, often caused by things outside our control, can be stressful and costly. I’ll work to streamline these processes and fight for better stipends and assistance to help students stay on track without added pressure.
