MCGREGOR, Jacob (Illuminate)

councillors

Hey there, I’m Jacob (he/him)! I’m the president of the Biomedical Science Club and a committee member of Curtin Gaming and Esports. I’m a second-year biomedical science student, so my schedule is very full! However, I will always make time for what matters: your rights. That’s why I’m running for Guild Council!

A large part of what I value is accountability and leadership, and that shows through my commitment to clubs. As a club president, I know what it means to have to make hard decisions and being a part of a team. I am organised, and I know when to listen and when to speak up, all things that are essential to being a Guild Councillor.

An Illuminate Guild has managed to fight for and secure paid pracs for nursing, midwifery and social work students, but there’s still a lot of work ahead. If students have paid pracs, they still have hoops to jump through, additionally, there are still countless students who don’t get compensated for their work. As a guild councillor, I will fight for paid pracs for everyone, because the fight doesn’t stop until all students are fairly compensated for their work.

Under Illuminate club spaces and facilities have improved, and I intend to continue this growth, because clubs are what makes university fun. I will endeavour to fight for more funding for club grants from the university and faculties so they can play a role in assisting clubs. I will work towards upgrading the current system so club events are easier and less stressful to organise.
