Hello everyone, my name is Astor (they/them) and I’m excited to run for Queer Officer for 2026 with Illuminate.
A little about me, I’m an international student from Hong Kong and am currently in my first year studying a Bachelor of Social Work.
I’ve been involved with the queer collective supporting the Queer Officers for the past two years and am eager to take on more responsibility for next year. Outside of Curtin, I’m also a volunteer at Freedom Centre, helping run peer support sessions for queer folks aged 18 to 25 years old. Through this, I’ve learned how to navigate and support other queer people in difficult situations. I’ve also built many connections with different organisations such as WAAC and M Clinic, which both provide gender affirming care and sexual health resources catered to queer people.
If I am elected next year, I will aim to make Curtin a more queer visible space and build a stronger bond between the queer students. This goal will be done through hosting more activities for queer students at Curtin. I will also continue to put efforts into the campaigns we still have running, for example, the We All Need to Pee campaign and Stop Deadnaming.
I hope you will consider voting for me as your next year’s Queer Officer!
