James Cabrera
Hi! My name is James Cabrera and I am a first-year student studying Masters in Project Management. This September, I am running for Ordinary Representative Board (ORB) for Illuminate.
I believe that international students need a better orientation program to help them acclimate to their new surroundings. Being a foreigner in a new country can be tough, and I would like to bridge the cultural divide for international students who may feel overwhelmed. By empowering cultural clubs and supporting new programs such as Curtin Buddies, I believe we can help international students adjust to life and study in Australia.
If elected, I want to create online forums for international students so they can communicate and meet more people. I also believe the student experience on campus needs to be more engaging and I would love to see more dedicated events for international students. I think having more international student events would allow international students to find a sense of belonging, even when they are so far from home.
Since I came to Curtin, I began to understand the issues faced by international students. I have volunteered during orientation week and talked to students about problems they’re having in their studies. Many international students are not aware of the various activities and facilities provided to them by Curtin. If elected, I want to make communication easier for everyone to understand so no one misses out.
Like what you hear? Then don’t forget to vote for me, James Cabrera, as the student voice to speak alongside the international students
