My name is Suhaila (she/her), a first-year Electrical and Electronics Engineering student running for Guild Council with Illuminate!
Though new to Curtin (and Australia!), I am already active as a Committee Member of the Curtin Student Housing Society, a mentor with Ignite, and a Curtin Volunteer. Back home, I led advocacy workshops on early marriage prevention, menstrual health, and cancer awareness, giving me strong experience in representing and supporting others.
I am passionate about inclusion, student wellbeing, and academic fairness. Many students, especially new and international, struggle with teaching clarity, language barriers, and course delivery. I will push for an anonymous academic feedback system, proper action on feedback, and staff training to improve accessibility for all students.
I will also advocate for accessible lecture formants and better scheduling of assessments to prevent major assessment clashes to help reduce student stress and burnout. Additionally, I will advocate for a “Know Your Rights” campaign so students understand academic policies, safety, and support services, because more than ever, it is important for students to know what they are entitled to. I also want to see healthier, more affordable late-night food options, cheaper vending snacks, and reduced printing costs, to help students with the ever increasing cost of living.
Your university experience should reflect your voice. I will bring that voice forward and fight to ensure student concerns are heard and acted on.
