Hello! I’m Hadiya (she/her), a second-year Engineering student, 2025 Guild Councillor, and President of the Curtin MENA Club, running with Illuminate for Vice President (Education).
I’ve seen how outdated systems and crowded classes make study harder than it should be.
I’ll fight for students, so your voice is heard and your tuition funds the education you deserve.
Serving on Guild Council and leading a major cultural club has shown me exactly where students fall through the cracks: inconsistent deadlines, recycled content, slow feedback, and mixed messages about AI. I’ll keep consultation open, act on it, and report back every teaching period.
If elected, I will:
End double standards on AI. If a unit bans ChatGPT for students, staff in that unit won’t use it either. No AI-only marking; any tool use must be disclosed and human checked. Clear rules where AI is allowed.
Standardise assessment timing. Make 11:59 pm (AWST) the universal submission time across schools, with a brief grace window, self cert extensions, and useful feedback before the next task is due.
Recordings, captions, currency. Record every lecture and upload within 48 hours with accurate captions/transcripts. No old recordings as primary delivery, content updated each semester. Add a “Report Outdated Content” button in Blackboard with a 5-business-day fix.
Lift teaching quality. Review low-pass-rate units, push smaller class sizes, expand UniPASS to core units, and fund paid academic office hours so help is actually available.
Fix study spaces & basics. Better Wi-Fi, more power points, expanded quiet & sensory-friendly rooms, later library hours, and bookable group rooms with whiteboards (moving toward 24/7 where feasible).
Protect student rights & integrity. Replace invasive online invigilation with privacy-respecting options; allow digital exam notes/lab sheets where appropriate; keep humans as the marker of record.
