Good day, I’m Samuel Hay (He/Him), I am a first-year Urban and Regional Planning student, and I’m honoured to be running for the position of Guild Councillor.
As a former Student Representative and School Board member at Manjimup Senior High School, I’ve worked closely with student bodies and educational institutions to drive meaningful change. I’m excited to bring that experience, and the insights I’ve gained growing up in regional WA, to Curtin University.
Now living in on-campus housing, I’m passionate about advocating for issues that directly affect students: housing affordability, access to education for rural students, and support for carers and students with disabilities. As a part-time carer for my brother, I understand the challenges of balancing study with personal responsibilities. That’s why I’m committed to pushing for stronger financial, emotional, and academic support systems through the Guild.
As a Planning student, I also want to champion better access to inexpensive transport options. Reliable and affordable transit is essential for students, and I believe Curtin and the government can do more to support this; through expanded public transport access, improved active transport infrastructure, and implementing fairer parking systems.
I believe student representation should be grounded in empathy, action, and lived experience, and I’d be honoured to bring that to the table.
