Hey! I’m Tom (He/Him), and I’m a History student in my second year. I am proud to be running for Guild Council 2026!
I have been honoured to serve as your 2025 Humanities Representative, and would love to continue serving the interests of students across the university. As Humanities Rep, I've made great efforts to ensure that students on placements are treated fairly, that assessment feedback is reasonable and quick, and have delivered several successful Guild events!
I’ve always had a passion for improving the rights and conditions of ordinary people. I’ve been involved with a broad spectrum of progressive causes. I understand the issues of working students today, that it is often hard to find and unstable. I've been involved with labour struggles across the casual work sector, including strike action and the fight against redundancies. I have experience with organising and representing ordinary people and would love to continue putting it to use as your guild councillor.
Action can be taken on any scale, and the Guild is the advocacy mechanism to help improve the student experience. I believe all students should have access to safe and affordable student housing and as a Guild Councillor I will advocate for additional support for student renters. I live in student housing myself and am appalled at UniLodge and their negligence. Relieving these stresses will go a long way to improving students' lives.
We could all benefit from tweaks to our units too. I will continue my efforts in assessment reform. A focus of mine for 2026 will be the establishment of a universal submission time, lifting a weight of confusion off students’ shoulders. We go into incredible debt for these units – no ask is too petty. With my experience, I will push for these changes and more.
