STORER, Dylan (Illuminate)

president

G’day! I’m Dylan (he/him), a journalism student from Fitzroy Crossing; small town in northern WA, and it’s been the privilege of my life to serve as your Guild President this year. When I first ran, I said my highest priority would be fighting for cost-of-living relief to make uni cheaper and ease the burden on students. That fight has been front and centre every single day.

This year, we’ve delivered real results. We introduced $5 Student Saver Meals every day on campus, opened a new Guild Food Pantry to support students doing it tough, and launched a student kitchen open later than ever. We secured more overflow parking, opened a brand-new Clubs Hub to support clubs and societies, and stood up for student renters, putting housing conditions and rent freezes in the headlines to push for change. When Curtin tried to change psychology students’ exams halfway through semester, we fought, and we won. And we’ve worked hard to protect student rights and free speech on campus.

But there’s more to do. Next year, we’ll expand the $5 menu across all Guild outlets, push for more parking and free parking, and fight for 11:59pm universal submission deadlines and fewer exams. We’ll open a 24-hour mini-mart and coffee bar in the library, and revitalise the Guild Precinct with a renovated Tav, Cafe Central, courtyards, and new equity spaces. We’ll keep fighting for student renters, open a Guild Hub on the south of campus, offer more services at Murray Street, and launch a coffee loyalty program. We’ll expand Student Assist, roll out more welfare programs, and create a “report outdated content” system so students get the education they deserve.

I was driven to take on the role of President to continue Illuminates proud tradition of running the most successful student union in Australia. It was only Illuminate that increased the Guild discount, decreased the late submission penalty, fought for and secured a second tuition free week starting 2026, made guild membership free again and stood up to the University, stopping the abolishment of in-person learning options last year.

Illuminate are a group of committed student activists that have been fighting for progressive causes all year. We bring a wealth of experience, commitment and dedication, and all of our members are well acquainted with the Guild.

If elected as President, I look forward to enacting the policy platform we have developed. I encourage you to read or watch videos of it at lluminate.org.au.
