Dylan Botica
Kaya! My name is Dylan (he/him), a Psychology, HR and Industrial Relations student who’s passionate about delivering results as your Guild President. In 2022, I was asked to step into a vacancy created in the role of President. Being the President is a daunting prospect. A student given the responsibility of being recognised as the voice of all enrolled students. I approached the role of president with some core values. I am driven by principles that representation should consist of accessible and open consultation, fierce advocacy and activism and passion to see things through.
I had been achieving improvements as Secretary by reducing the barriers to join collectives and First Year Committee, reforming our structure to bring in further accountability and transparency to students and providing support to a team of passionate Illuminate representatives. I led a massive ‘Enrol to Vote’ and ‘Vote for the issues that matter to you’ federal election campaign calling every student in key electorates. I put more students on more university committees across the university to increase the student voice.
I was energised to take on the role of President in order to continue Illuminates proud tradition of running the most successful student union in Australia. It was only Illuminate that increased the Guild discount, made membership free again and stood up to the University, stopping the abolishment of in-person learning options last year.
Over the last couple of years, and amidst the chaos of attacks on Universities and the pandemic, the Guild and Illuminate have been standing up for the rights of students. Illuminate are a group of committed student activists that have been fighting for progressive causes all year. We bring a wealth of experience, commitment and dedication, and all of our members are well acquainted with the Guild.

Over the years, I have maintained the opinion that true representation must arise from open communication, strength in numbers, and genuine connection. This is the kind of Guild I want to foster in 2022. Only a vote for Illuminate will deliver this.
