My name is Ben Burgess and I am nominating for Guild Council in 2026. Over the past two years I have served as a Guild Councillor and as your Vice President Education. In these roles I have worked closely with students, staff and the University to make sure your voice is not only heard but acted on.
I have focused strongly on academic issues. This year I fought to ensure students receive proper feedback on assessments and that Curtin is held accountable to its commitment of bringing back a second tuition free week. I also worked to highlight outdated unit content and push for its removal so students are learning the skills that matter in their future. Earlier this year I led the campaign on Universal Submission Time by gathering student feedback at O-Day and through petitions. I am proud to have played a role in securing the reversal of unfair changes to psychology exam times.
Beyond academic policy I have consistently supported student life on campus. As the former President of Curtin Games and Esports I transformed the club into a stronger and more engaged community. Since then I have continued to offer my time as an advisor to clubs finding their footing and navigating challenges. I understand how important a vibrant campus culture is and how much events and clubs contribute to the student experience.
If elected I will continue to advocate on behalf of students academically while also pushing for stronger support for clubs and events and use my position on the Guild Council to ensure accountability remains in the Guild and a forum to voice student opinion.
