ABED, Sarah (Illuminate)

women

Hi, I’m Sarah Abed (she/her), a second-year Law and Journalism student. I’m running for the position of Women’s Officer with Illuminate!

My passion for student life has grown through my involvement in the Middle Eastern and North African Club and the Curtin Engineering Club, where I’ve seen firsthand the power of community and advocacy. These experiences have inspired me to put myself forward as a representative for women on campus.

As Women’s Officer, I want to build a more inclusive and safe campus environment for all women, with a particular focus on the voices and needs of women of colour. I believe that advocacy is most effective when it is inclusive, and I am committed to ensuring that every woman feels represented, supported, and heard.

Some of the key changes I want to push for if elected include:

  1. Safety at night: advocating for improved campus lighting and security measures so all students feel safe walking around after dark.

  2. Accessibility of essentials: ensuring better access to free and sustainable period products across campus.

  3. Community and connection: creating more women-oriented events that empower everyone, celebrate diversity, and build solidarity.

I want to listen, learn, and act on the issues that matter most to you. With your support, I can ensure that women’s voices, in all their diversity, are at the centre of Guild decision-making. Together, we can create a safer, stronger, and more inclusive Curtin.
