The new Curtin Student Charter is live — and it’s better because students were at the centre of writing it. When the University launched the review, we made sure the Guild had a real seat at the table. We led the drafting process and fought to make it clearer, fairer, and more reflective of what students actually experience.
For the first time, the Charter now clearly outlines your rights as a Curtin student. These are protections you can rely on — not just vague ideals. You now have the right to:
-
Be safe and be treated with respect by all members of the Curtin community
-
Receive a world-class education taught by academics with relevant expertise and receive timely, fair and constructive assessment feedback
-
Have an engaging student experience and access to excellent support and wellbeing services
-
Be freely represented by the Curtin Student Guild and be actively engaged in a culture of staff and student partnership that is supported by all members of the Curtin community
-
Engage freely in academic discussion, critical thinking, the generation of new ideas and all aspects of university life
We also pushed to remove “Student Charter Breaches” from Curtin’s discipline system — so the Charter is no longer used as a vague set of rules to punish students. It’s now what it should be: a clear and fair statement of rights and responsibilities.
You can read the full Charter — including your responsibilities — on the Curtin website

This is student representation in action.
