EVENTS
Events are one of the best parts of the student experience!
The Guild runs many large-scale flagship Curtin events such as Guild O-Day, Guild Ball and Pasar Malam, as well as regular giveaways and week-long initiatives, such as Mental Health Week, Upcycle Markets and Clubs Week.
EVENT CALENDAR
The Guild event calendar is curated each semester by the Guild’s professional event staff alongside the Vice President - Activities, and ensures that we deliver a cohesive, unified and strategic program of high-quality events and experiences to our members.
Event programming for the year ahead is carefully weighed up and influenced by a wide range of factors, including:
- market trends and survey data
- overall feasibility (including budgets, timelines, & staff resources)
- student demographic information
- alignment with Guild values
- overall value to members (cost vs. engagement vs. number of students to benefit)
- outcomes and learnings from previous events
- professional knowledge and event-specific expertise
The core Guild event calendar is available from mid-February each year for semester one and from mid-June for semester two. You will be approached by the Vice President - Activities to brainstorm ideas relevant to your portfolio and dates available at the beginning of your term and during the semester break mid-year.
Any additional “non-core” events on behalf of individual portfolios are very much subject to resources, staffing, budget, scheduling, and where/how/if they can be accommodated within the Guild event calendar and add value to our members, taking into account the above influencing factors.
Faculty Reps and Equity Officers have the opportunity to contribute to existing core events/initiatives and will be asked if they would like to be consulted or have involvement during the planning phase of any relevant event or activity.
REQUESTS FOR ON-CAMPUS EXPOSURE OR GUILD SUPPORT
You may be approached from time to time by various Curtin departments, individuals, businesses or groups requesting your help in facilitating a stall, campaign or other activation on campus. A good example of this are requests for external O-Day stalls.
Queries of this nature should always be discussed with the Events Coordinator prior to entering into any form of agreement or arrangement with such parties, as we will often have additional strategic and/or commercial context and recommendations. For example, external groups must apply for an O-Day stall, receive confirmation that they may attend and pay a fee.
If you are unsure, please forward any requests / proposals to partner onto the Events Coordinator.
