Sorry Day (26th May) is the day where the nation remembers and commemorates the mistreatment of the Stolen Generations and National Reconciliation Week.

 

Curtin University and the Curtin Student Guild are running various FREE events throughout the day (May 26) across campus. We encourage all staff and students to attend and participate!

 

SORRY DAY PROGRAM – MAY 26 2022

 

Welcome to Country / Smoking Ceremony

  • 9am – 9:15am
  • Centre for Aboriginal Studies (CAS), Building 211, Foyer

Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country facilitated by a Whadjuk Elder.

 

Wanju Curtin Mia

  • 9:30am
  • Curtin Yarning Circle

Meet at the Yarning Circle and experience an immersive walking tour facilitated by the Cultural Capability Team.

Gain knowledge of our reconciliation journey at Curtin and an introduction to Nyungar knowledge and practices from a Whadjuk perspective. The walk will finish at the Sculpture Garden (opposite Guild reception).

Gather to watch this special event from the newly completed Stolen Generationa Memorial within Wellington Square (Moort-ak-Waadiny) East Perth.

Acting-Vice Chancellor and the Curtin Senior Executive Team will join students and staff to note Sorry Day and the beginning of National Reconciliation Week 2022.

 

Sorry Day Lunch

  • 12:30pm – 1:30pm
  • Sculpture Garden

Students and staff are invited to partake and join in lunch together. The lunch will be provided by the Curtin Student Guild.

Light indigenous inspired lunch available using native ingredients. Sweet and savoury finger foods, tea/coffee and juice etc.

 

Yarning Story-Telling

  • 1:30pm – 2:30pm
  • Sculpture Garden

To close out the day, listen to shared stories from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples related to Sorry Day and Reconciliation. This will be facilitated by the Cultural Capability and the Centre for Aboriginal Studies.
