NOMINATIONS

Being a Guild representative is a varied role that will give you great experience working within a non-for-profit organisation. Find out how to nominate and what positions are available below.

Nominations are open from 10am, Monday 12 August, 2024 to 12 noon, Thursday, 29 August 2024.

We encourage all nominees to download nomination forms and complete them electronically except for the signature. Forms can then be printed and signed in person at Guild Reception prior to lodgement.

Election Nomination Deposit

The election nomination deposit is $10 per candidate and must be paid prior to or with the nomination form.

The deposit can also be paid at Guild Reception in Building 106F. The maximum amount payable per candidate shall be $10 no matter how many positions they nominate for.

No nomination deposit is required for NUS nominations.  The nomination deposit for a candidate will be refunded if that candidate is elected for a position other than NUS delegate

What's it like being a Guild representative?
Being a Guild representative is a varied role that will give you great experience working within a non-for-profit organisation. 

There’s a whole team of professional staff to help you and give advice with planning events, running campaigns and posting on social media so that you can focus on the advocating for students.



PRESIDENT

To be the channel for feedback and ideas between us students and Curtin’s senior executives.

  • Lead the different areas of the Guild by making sure they have what they need to serve students
  • Listen to what representatives and students are saying and channel this to Curtin’s managers
  • Run campaigns to win what students are asking for - things like bringing back in-person lectures and our second tuition free week
  • Be proactive and advocate for things that will improve the student experience



VICE PRESIDENT - ACTIVITIES

Ensure that campus is a vibrant, fun and social place to be by organising events, activities and managing clubs and societies!

  • Be on top of what’s going on in the club space
  • Help reps run fun events on campus!
  • Making sure that the bigger events on campus appeal to students.



VICE PRESIDENT - EDUCATION

The Vice President - Education oversees all things education.

  • Sit on a wide variety of boards and committees to represent student issues and provide a liaison between the University and the student body. 
  • Devise, implement and manage campaigns relating to education issues. 
  • Provide guidance, resources, and support for the Faculty Representatives.
  • Direct and respond to student concerns.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of education related events (such as Excellence in Teaching Awards).
  • Assist the President in any matters they see fit. 



VICE PRESIDENT - SUSTAINABILITY & WELFARE

The Vice President - Sustainability & Welfare oversees all things sustainability and welfare.

  • Sit on a wide variety of boards and committees to represent student issues and provide a liaison between the University and the student body. 
  • Devise, implement and manage campaigns relating to sustainability and welfare issues.
  • Provide guidance, resources, and support for the Equity Representatives.
  • Direct and respond to student concerns.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of sustainability & welfare related events.
  • Assist the President in any matters they see fit. 



SECRETARY

The supporting pillar of the Guild that takes care of admin, finance and governance.

Those interested in the role of Secretary can nominate for a position as Guild Councillor. 
The Secretary and the Chair of Guild Council will be elected from among the twelve (12) Guild Councillors each year.

  • Preparing agenda and minutes for various Guild committees
  • Overseeing the Representation budget and approving payments
  • Briefing reps on governance rules and procedures
  • Helping the Guild Executive with their projects
  • Supporting and training student reps



FACULTY REPRESENTATIVES

Represent thousands of students in your faculty from across the globe to ensure that they receive a high quality and accessible education in a really unique role. 

  • Maintain faculty Facebook group
  • Participating in student discipline panels and committees that create courses and units.
  • Help students navigate problems they face at University.
  • Contribute to improving the quality of education at Curtin.
  • Run events for students in the faculty and help with orientation.
  • Sit on Guild boards and committees to make sure we appropriately represent students in the faculty
     

QUEER OFFICER

The Queer Officer provides advocacy and support for all LGBTQIA+ students across campus, including organising social events and being a voice for queer students in meetings and committees at various levels across campus.

  • Representing the interests of LGBTQIA+ students at Curtin.
  • Organising social events and activities for the Queer Department.
  • Managing the QD social media accounts and communicate relevant information to students.
  • Attending various meetings with different groups across campus.
  • Prepare a report for Representation Board each month
     

WOMEN’S OFFICER

Represent women and non-binary people and communicate to the university on behalf of them.

  • Bringing a voice specifically for the community on university committees and other relevant meetings
  • Prepare a report for Representation Board each month
  • Facilitating events for the community
  • Managing the social media accounts
  • Being aware of issues relevant to the rights of women and non-binary people 
  • Creating initiatives or campaigns
     

ACCESSIBILITY OFFICER

Representing and advocating for students with disabilities in the Guild and to the University.

  • Attend meetings, including preparing a report for Representation Board each month
  • Following up on student concerns about accessibility at the University
  • Staying in contact with AccessAbility Services
  • Planning events for students who engage with the department
  • Manage social media pages and groups 
     

INDIGENOUS OFFICER

Represent and advocate for First Nations students.

  • Be a representative for First Nations students to reach out to for support
  • Organise social activities and events for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student community
  • Advocate for First Nations students rights on university committees
  • Prepare a report for Representation Board each month

 


POSTGRADUATE STUDENT COMMITEE (PSC) PRESIDENT

Champion the continued improvement and defend the current value of postgraduate education at Curtin University.

  • Chair Meetings of the Postgraduate Students Committee and facilitate the generation of ideas and initiatives from the committee.
  • Report to the Guild Council and the Vice President - Education regarding all matters affecting the postgraduate student experience.
  • Represent your fellow postgrads on high level committees of the university, communicating their experiences and ideas for better postgraduate education.
  • Ensure representation on all postgraduate level committee so that the student voice is heard from students.
  • Communicate and engage with the postgraduate student community through social media and events.
     

POSTGRADUATE STUDENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS

PSC Members are nominated and elected during Semester Two after the annual elections. 
All Postgraduate students will receive an email when nominations are open.
 


INTERNATIONAL STUDENT COMMITTEE (ISC) PRESIDENT

Represent and advocate for International students.

  • Chair meetings of the International Student Committee
  • Attend meetings, including preparing a report for Representation Board each month
  • Advocate for International students rights on university committees
  • Manage social media pages and groups 
     


INTERNATIONAL STUDENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS

ISC Members are nominated and elected during Semester Two after the annual elections.
All International students will receive an email when nominations are open.
 


GUILD COUNCILLORS

Guild Councillors are similar to the role of board members of the Guild. They set the objectives, values and direction of the Guild. They also oversee the Executive and Managing Directors performance and bring new ideas in the areas of governance and operations. 

  • Attend Guild Council meetings
  • Hold the Guild President and Executive accountable
  • Bring items for discussion and ideas for the Guild
  • Sit on Guild Committees on areas that interest you
  • Vote on the most important issues facing the Guild 
  • Select a Guild Councillor to become Secretary

 


 

NATIONAL UNION OF STUDENTS DELEGATE

The NUS represents all post school students in Australia for education, academic freedom, access to education, social security, health and welfare. Delegates represent Curtin students at meetings of the NUS National Conference.
