Training plays a huge role in introducing club office bearers to the mandatory processes for Guild-affiliated clubs in order to effectively run your club.

Mandatory for all 2023 club committee members

This must be provided to ALL new committee members when they take on a role in your club. Consider this your first mandatory reading guide before doing anything as a club committee member.

Run Your Club in TidyHQ (Club Management Software)

Tidy HQ is a dynamic platform that will make it quick and easy for all Guild-registered clubs to:

  • Manage your memberships
  • Keep in touch with your contacts
  • Have visibility over the financial health of your organisation
  • Coordinate events
  • Run your meetings
  • Track the actions assigned to each committee member
  • Sell merchandise or fundraising items

Use of TidyHQ is compulsory for all Guild clubs to receive a confirmed registration status and retain access to club perks.

 

Getting Started
Each club’s previous committee should provide the newly elected committee with admin access upon election. You should receive  an automated email via TidyHQ inviting you to activate your account. Simply click through the link in your activation email to get started! Please contact clubs@guild.curtin.edu.au if you require your activation email to be re-sent.

Finance, Grants & Funding Workshop

Recommended for all executive committee members, not to mention treasurers

Are finances on your mind? How can managing your finances, grants and funding sources not be reactive, but proactive? This workshop will allow leaders to maximise the value delivered to their students, support innovative ideas coming to life while meeting financial requirements necessary for the long term success of the student group. You will learn how to:

  • Identify sources of funding available at your university
  • Describe what is required to meet the funding/grant requirements and where to access necessary application forms/processes
  • Build a budget for an event and the year ahead
  • Identify potential costs for their group over the calendar year
  • Diversify income sources to maximise value delivered to students

Responding to disclosures of sexual assault course

Recommended for all executive committee members, specifically those running major events, camps and events with alcohol

The Curtin Student Guild is committed to ensuring safe, consensual and enjoyable campus club culture.

Responding to disclosures of sexual assault course
This free course developed by the Sexual Assault Resource Centre WA (SARC) aims to increase knowledge and understanding about sexual assault issues and to increase people's ability to effectively respond to disclosures of sexual assault from adolescents and adults.

When you register for this free course:

  1. Look for the SARC course under the "recommended packages" heading,
  2. Login as a guest using the guest code
  3. Remember to take a screenshot of your completions certificate & send to clubs@guild.curtin.edu.au


All club committee members are encouraged to complete this course if they feel safe to respond to disclosures of this nature.

The Guild will require a SARC trained committee member to be working any event's your club plan to run that involve alcohol, are off-campus or incvolve overnight stays such as club retreats and camps. The club Support team will advise club's if this is required when they receive your event application.

Student Engagement & Innovation Workshop

Recommended for all committee members, not just the core four

This workshop is designed to map out the student journey and allow leaders to maximise the value they deliver to their students. Leaders will explore design thinking to identify what students are aiming to achieve and where they can solve student problems from first principles, inspired by entrepreneurial frameworks.

You will learn how to:

  • Understand the role of design thinking in adding value to student members
  • Identify various student segments within their student group
  • Identify student ambitions and challenges
  • Ideate innovative solutions to these ambitions and challenges
  • Answer the Big 5 Questions of 2021 for student engagement

Held Friday 9 April 2021 online via Zoom.

Event Management Workshop

Recommended for those involved in event planning, delivery and budgets.

 

This workshop covered event objectives, target markets, resources, budgets, venues, entertainment, stakeholder engagement, committee task delegations, risk management and how to plan an event in the current COVID-19 global climate. The session followed-on from the Clubs & Societies Committee Meeting so it was recommended that club representatives attend both the meeting and the workshop, however, it was not mandatory. 

This session was delivered in 2021 by the Guild's Event Coordinator, Jess. Jess has a wealth of knowledge and experience in a wide variety of events and will help you navigate the challenges of events at any scale.

For event assistance moving forward, please contact the Clubs Officer any time via phone or email & should we require a meeting for high impact events, we can assist and provide guidence accourdingly as the club support team also have extensive event planning experience.

Volunteer & Team Management Workshop

Recommended for all committee members, not just the core four.

 

How do you stay motivated and where does motivation come from? This workshop will teach you about the six intrinsic drivers of motivation, self-assess where you are performing at your best and develop an action plan to feel better and stay on track over the year ahead.

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Describe the 4-stages of team formation: Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing (Dr Bruce Tuckman);
  • Describe the 6-drivers of motivation;
  • Assess their personal motivation hierarchy across the 6-drivers of motivation;
  • Understand and empathize with the needs of volunteers and peers;
  • Motivate individuals and teams by applying actions from each of the 6-drivers.

Succession Planning Workshop

Recommended for all committee members, not just the core four.

Succession planning is a process for identifying and developing new leaders who can replace old leaders when they leave or retire. Succession planning increases the availability of experienced and capable committee members that are prepared to assume these roles as they become available.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • The six intrinsic drivers of motivation;
  • Self-assess where you are performing at your best and develop an action plan to feel better and stay on year ahead;
  • Identify the 3-stages of succession planning;
  • Apply the desire-performance matrix to assess internal leadership potential within your student group;
  • Explore the 4-M's of leadership development;
  • Create a leadership value proposition for new leaders;
  • Complete a succession planning template for committee development and role passover.

Film & Editing Workshop

This workshop will show you how to use film for digital engagement purposes using your mobile and apps.

Arun Raj from the Digital Student Engagement team at Curtin walks you through how to make an engaging video with real life examples. With over a decade of experience in both the corporate and creative space, Arun is well versed in best practice with content creation and will walk you through the steps and questions you should ask yourself before and while you’re creating content for your audience.

  • Conflict Management, Online: 2 May, In-person: 3 May Highly recommended for all club committee members, not just the core four.


These workshops are open to all students and would highly benefit club leaders. Students can attend one or as many of the workshops throughout the semester.
