The Peoples' Choice Award
Any member of the Curtin community can nominate a club for this award. This includes faculty members and teaching staff, general staff and associates, fellow clubs, club members, and general Curtin students. The People's Choice Award is YOUR chance to shine the spotlight on the clubs who've made your Curtin experience extraordinary. Our winners will be determined by the quality (not the quantity) of nominations received FROM YOU, our Curtin Community.

Major Awards (Club-Nominated)
Winners will have demonstrated an extremely high level of engagement with their members and the wider Curtin community, by facilitating a diverse range of events, projects and/or initiatives throughout the year. The winner for each category will be announced at the annual awards ceremony held in October. They also receive a direct cash grant to assist with future club events, projects, and initiatives, at the discretion of the club committee.

- Runner-up for each category receive additional club function pack points for the following year.
The club's committee must submit a nomination to be in the running. Check the eligibility criteria and our nomination preparation tips before submitting a nomination.
Eligibility Criteria
General Eligibility (All Categories)
To be eligible for any award, clubs must:
- Be fully registered with the Curtin Student Guild in 2025.
- Have conducted themselves to a high standard throughout the year. (i.e. respectful interactions, both online and in person, with Guild and University staff, members, students, community, etc.).
- Represent the Guild and Curtin University in a positive light.
- Not be subject to any substantiated complaints or misconduct.
- Not have committed any compliance breaches or demonstrated poor behaviour.
Note: Each award category has additional eligibility & criteria which is listed below.
Award-Specific Eligibility Criteria
These criteria apply in addition to the general eligibility criteria.
Most Improved Club
- Registered with the Guild for at least 24 consecutive months.
- Provide a clear comparison between previous and current year performance, including:
- Membership growth or retention
- Event quality and frequency
- Governance improvements
- Marketing and engagement enhancements
- Include evidence of improvement, such as:
- Updated strategic plans
- Feedback from members
- Examples of new initiatives or changes made
Best New Club
- First registered with the Guild between July 1, 2024 and now.
- Held at least one event per semester since registration.
- Demonstrate:
- Strong initial governance and committee engagement
- Clear club objectives and alignment with events
- Early signs of member engagement and growth
Best Club Event
- Event must:
- Align with your club’s stated objectives
- Achieve the outcomes set out in the event proposal, such as:
- Attendance goals
- Industry or community engagement
- Member satisfaction
- Demonstrate efficient use of resources, including:Budget summary
Sponsorships or partnerships (if applicable)
- Include supporting evidence, such as:Posters, flyers, social media posts, surveys, feedback, or budget documents
- Desirable inclusions:
- Include interactive or creative elements, such as:Q&A sessions, games, polls, or workshops
- Be innovative or original in concept or delivery
- Be inclusive and accessible, with details on:Accessibility measures (e.g. sensory-friendly options, physical access)

This includes faculty members and teaching staff, general staff and associates, fellow clubs, club members, and general Curtin students. Winners are assessed by the quality (not the quantity) of nominations received from the Curtin Community only. Clubs can promote the people's choice award to their members and Curtin staff for nominations.

Curtin Middle Eastern North African Club (MENA). We received well written and passionate feedback from members of this club. With a dizzying array of social media presence helping to express the diversity of the clubs’ cultural roots. A member said that the new club has transformed campus life for students like themselves. Others have stated that the club has created a sense of belonging for students from the Middle East and North Africa.

Curtin Hindu Club. Holding weekly cultural events on campus and keeping members engaged is no small feat, but this club has done just this in its 2 years of being back on campus. Students say that the weekly events allow them to embrace and learn new things about their culture, able to create new friends and to socialise, but also embrace their holiest of festivals all under the one banner.

Women in Business - Spring Market. With its third year running, there was a dramatic shift for this event to be moved from a night time affair to a day time setting. This saw the club activate Atkinson Forum with a host of women-led businesses and stalls. Feedback from attendees called the market “fantastic” and “inspiring”. Women in Business’ Spring Market.

Curtin Hindu Club - Harmony in Colours. Combing culture and religion, this Holi Festival was about creating an inclusive, respectful and belonging environment to celebrate that every colour is beautiful. By covering everyone in colour, everyone is equal.

Curtin Mechanical Society - MechElMech. Every year this club aims to make a bigger and better event that provides an entire cohort the opportunity to network with over 25 companies. With the goal to get students out there into grad programs, this event is timed to help students to meet those companies and get a foot in the door. With over 200 attendees, this former Runner-up has crashed through the barriers to win Best Club Event of the Year.

Curtin Occupational Therapy Society. When new clubs start they have to outline their key purpose, and for this club, it was not just about creating a club for a particular cohort, it was also about raising awareness about the important job that people in that cohort provide to the general community. You will see at their stalls at O-Day, and their BBQ events, with equipment that shows the wider Community the difficulties that many people have with getting through daily life. That is why Occupational Therapy is such an important cohort to help people in the tasks they do, day-to-day.

Vietnamese Students Association at Curtin held 8 successful events this year, ranging from celebrations of culture to inspiring members by holding talks with successful Vietnamese Curtin alumni. This club has had a touching impact on Vietnamese students at Curtin, with many reaching out to us to speak about how much this club has meant to them, to have a community they can feel they belong to.

Curtin Middle Eastern North African Club (MENA). This club was only fully registered in August, 2024, but sky rocketed to 140 members in short time, running two very well attended and successful events. Their marketing campaign on Instagram is next level and truly embraces the diversity of cultures they represent. With their rapid growth and developing of their community, the club have all the tools in place for a long and successful time at Curtin.

Curtin Marketing Association.This club is the epitome of a Phoenix rising from the ashes. Being one of the clubs that dissolved during Covid, an entire cohort was left without the opportunities that other cohort led clubs provide them. A group of students worked hard to not only bring the club back, but also conducted a total and very successful rebrand. They had a clear goal and created a step-by-step plan to build the club back up from ashes.

Curtin Engineers Without Borders. KPI Improvements: 2023 members, 35. 2024 members, 252. Total events went up 567%. 111 Workshops and Volunteering activities completed. These are only a few of the astounding numbers that this club has managed to improve upon for this year, as the club not only targeted fellow Engineering students, but also realised that their club could bring so much more for students from the School of Education, and other cohorts. They also successfully delivered events ranging from volunteering Youth Outreach programs to Beach Clean-ups, and social events!

Curtin Games and Esports. With a dedicated committee running 5 events every week online and offline, for their equally dedicated community, this club pulled out all of the stops to bring some of the largest gaming events that Curtin has seen in many years. With not one, but three LAN parties held, a plethora of weekly gaming nights, and sold out Tav Quiz Nights, this was another incredibly successful year.

Women in Business Curtin. This was one of the closest Club of the Year awards the committee have ever had to score and thus we have another runner up. Another successful year with a dedicated committee at the helm, this club focused on creating opportunities for their like-minded business and entrepreneur counter-parts. With many events catering to networking with sponsors, relaxing and elegant social events, and capping the year with an incredibly successful Spring Market.

Curtin Computer Science Students Association (ComSSA).To win Club of the Year is no easy feat, and to win Club of the Year when you start your year off asking for help because you didn’t receive a proper handover is one of the biggest testaments we could give to a club committee. This club not-only dedicated themselves for running Hackathon’s, casual Sundowners, and revision workshops for First Years, the committee dedicated themselves to fixing up the governance of the club, to write up a series of handover documents, and to ensure that they could handover the club in a better shape then they received it.

Curtin Hindu Club. Numerous anecdotes were lodged for the People’s Choice Award from various stakeholders, including Curtin staff, students, and the general community. One student described their weekly holistic events as a joy to attend, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Another student stated that their connection to their identity and culture was strengthened by the clubs’ events and approach to Hinduism. Staff described how the club’s weekly sessions filled a longstanding need for Hindu students to have a place to collaborate and attend on campus.

Feedback from various sources such as members, industry partners, Curtin staff mention the club should be commended for assisting in tackling really important issues that will continue to impact society in an incredibly challenging economic environment with high costs of living. Other things mentioned were that the committee are determined, hardworking, welcoming, provided informative workshops & are willing to provide other new clubs with support & time – just to name a few.

Curtin Japanese Club (CJC). CJC’s impact on the wider Curtin community can be summarised with the success of their intra-cultural language exchange program. Bringing together Japanese students, and students from all other backgrounds to exchange language, culture, and develop friendships is a testament to the club’s importance to the Curtin community. Their Semester 2 inaugural language exchange at the Tav exceeded all expectations with over 100 students coming together in a showcase of what bringing the Curtin community together really is about. Working with the Japanese Consulate in Perth, the club welcomed international school students to their language exchange program, creating a really global community experience for Curtin students.

Curtin Tabletop. . CT have proven to be quite successful in their ongoing goal to bring together their community through diversifying events to assist with breaking down ideological boundaries. The club has heavily focused on fostering connections amongst its members and it is extremely evident they are ensuring its online and in-person spaces are safe, welcoming and exciting. This is apparent via various sources of feedback from Curtin stakeholder references & member testimonials. Some words used by members to describe the club are; consistent, diverse, highlight of my year, accepting, delightfully friendly faces, chill & fun, hardworking leaders – just to name a few. The main and common trend we’d like to share in just a small snapshot, was that members expressed how happy they are with the lifelong friendships they’ve made.

Nursing Paramedicine and Oral Health Student Society Curtin (NPO). Due to ongoing Covid issues, the Nursing, Paramedicine, and Oral Health students of Curtin were without a club to bring students together and help develop industry relationships. This all changed for 2023 with the arrival of NPO Curtin. With over 90 members in their inaugural year, and over 300 following their social media accounts, it’s been a successful arrival for NPO. With industry events teaching skills to students, to sundowners for students to relax at following hard working Semesters, the club has diversified its offerings and created an inviting club that will see much success in 2024.

Finance & Financial Planning Curtin (FFP). FFP have launched their new club like no other with a heavy focus on setting-up their committee, stakeholder relationships, securing sponsorship and listening to what members wish to see. After laying a strong foundation, they blasted into semester two by delivering well organised and executed events, developing bonds with industry partners & Curtin stakeholders while providing their members with a varying experience such as a sense of community and connections with industry. Feedback from various sources such as members, industry partners, Curtin staff mention the club should be commended for assisting in tackling really important issues that will continue to impact society in an incredibly challenging economic environment with high costs of living. Curtin Association of Malaysian Students. Hosting a staggering 13 events in 2023, with an attendance of over 650 students across all events, AMS has grown leaps and bounds. Their events were wide-ranging with culturally significant events in the Merdeka Meetups to celebrate Malaysia’s independence, and their Hari Raya night market proving a huge success. AMS utilised their social media effectively with striking promotional material that helped them advertise to their members and the wider community. All of this couldn’t have occurred without the efforts of their committee which has expanded in 2023 to accommodate their commitment to bring more events to Curtin.

Curtin African Student Association. In CASA’s own words: “our club has demonstrated remarkable growth and success”. This is an understatement given the success of the club over 2023. Developing their relationships with various stakeholders, sponsors, and community members, the club ran hugely successful events focused on bringing the culturally diverse African communities of Curtin together. Highlights include their two semester parties with notable DJs, and their Mental Health Workshop with special guest, Olympian Peter Bol. This hard work and success are a testament to their expanded committee for 2023. Feedback from Curtin stakeholders included how professional the club committee members conducted themselves, their exemplary work with the club, and their commitment to international and domestic students of their community.

Curtin Mechanical Society - MechElMech. CMS was the lead organiser for Mechelmech, a joint networking event hosting 20 engineering companies. Such companies include Monadelphous, Rio Tinto, and GHD. The club had an incredible turnout of 167 students, an improvement from last year’s 133. Being a major collaboration effort with other Guild Clubs such as CSME, CEC, WiECD, IEEE, CRoC and MLC it was highly successful at its scale.

Curtin Filipino Students' Society for Tiangge. Tiangge is the flagship event of CFSS, a Filipino night market with Filipino culture on true display for all who attend, with countless hours of work throughout the year culminating in showcasing Filipino culture to not only Curtin staff and students, but the wider Bentley community. 2023 saw Tiangge reach new heights with over 300 students, staff, and community members coming together. The CFSS committee worked tirelessly through the year to develop their dance performances for the night, showcasing a unique offering of the club. Attendees were in awe of the event, surprised to hear it was student run, and stating that the night market was an awesome break from study. Tiangge could not have been the success it was without the CFSS extended committee coming together and working in harmony to execute 2023’s event of the year.

Curtin Tabletop. Curtin Tabletop’s commitment to creating a fully inclusive space for students to come together to play various types of role-playing and boardgames is a testament to their committee for 2023. Running weekly Friday night games nights, running events through the study breaks and mid-year semester break was not enough, with the committee running two MEGAGAMES in 2023. With the staggering amount of time required to run one MEGAGAME, the commitment from their committee to develop a story, resources, advertise, and run a second event is a sign to their success for 2023. Members feedback to the club include it’s accepting, welcoming and safe space, the long-lasting friendships members have made, and the effort the club has put in to create memorable gaming events.

Curtin Esports. Curtin Esports committee meeting at the start of 2023 clearly stated the club’s goal of reach out to more of the Curtin community. To say this was a success would be an understatement and not a true reflection of what Curtin Esports committee have achieved this year. Hosting weekly Games Nights in the Tav; Game Zones at some of Curtin’s largest events; and their indomitable semesterly Quiz Nights: Curtin Esports made themselves available for all students on campus who were needing a safe, welcoming environment to unwind. Given the vast expansion of the club for in-person and on-campus events, this did not come as a detriment to the club’s heart and soul online gaming opportunities, with daily events through the week available for all members to relax after a hard day of study. Feedback from members included how accommodating the club is, creating a warm, accepting, and safe environment, and how they have made lasting friendships.
