Assessment Appeals

If you would like assistance with putting your appeal letter together you are welcome to make an appointment with a Student Assist Officer who can help you with this.

General Appeals

There could be a variety of other decisions, that are unrelated to assessment or status, that you may wish to appeal. For example, it could be in regards to a decision made about your enrolment or payment of fees. In all of these cases, it is worth following the basic principle of trying to resolve the issues informally with the people directly involved. Make sure you have a clear understanding of why a particular decision has been made and in turn, be clear on why you think it is unreasonable or unfair.

Status Appeals

If for whatever reason you don’t do too well one semester and find yourself on conditional or terminated status, you have a right to lodge an appeal, but you will need to clearly state strong grounds if an appeal is likely to be successful. If you would like assistance with putting your appeal letter together you are welcome to make an appointment with a Student Assist Officer who can help you with this.

Plagiarism & Academic Misconduct

Being charged with plagiarism or academic misconduct within a University can lead to serious consequences. For assistance with putting together an appeal or for more information on plagarism, please make an appointment with a Student Assist Officer, or refer to our fact sheets at Guild Reception or on our site. Student Assist can also offer a student representation and support in disiplinary and/or misconduct proceedings.

Withdrawing or Changing Courses Advice

If you are starting to feel that what you are studying isn’t quite right for you, we can provide some avenues for you to consider before you make your decision about what to do. It is important to be aware of all of your options and a Student Assist Officer may be able to provide you with some information that makes all the difference.

Feature Services

Personal Accident Insurance

The Curtin Student Guild holds a Personal Accident Insurance Policy for the benefit of all Curtin students who are current Full Guild Members of the Curtin Student Guild. The policy covers you whilst on campus and/or whilst engaged in a University/Course/Sport related activity as well as any necessary direct travel to and from such activities. As the name suggests, the cover is for accident only, not sickness. If you think you may have a claim, please contact Student Assist as soon as possible to discuss your situation further.

Work Experience Insurance Cover

Under our Personal Accident Insurance policy, student initiated work experience can also be covered. Students should be aware that this policy covers for accidents only. It does not provide any public liability or professional indemnity insurance.

Any work experience undertaken must be course related in order to be covered, and the Guild must be notified before you begin. We can only cover work experience on a case by case basis and you must contact us first or you will not be covered. You will need to pick up a ‘Work Experience’ form from Guild Reception or download it now and have it signed by a lecturer stating that your work experience is indeed course related. When you bring the completed form to the Guild, you will be given a letter confirming cover. For every new work experience placement, you must recontact the Guild in order to be covered.
