2007 Curtin Student Guild Orientation-Day
The Curtin Student Guild Orientation Day, which took place at Curtin University Bentley Campus on Wednesday 21 February, proved to be a brilliant introduction to life at University for Curtin’s new students.
The Guild Precinct and Sir Charles Court Promenade were alive with activities and entertainment. New-to-Curtin students were excited to see what the Guild could showcase in 2007.
Despite the heat, O-Day had approximately 8000 visitors to campus that day.
150 Stalls filled Sir Charles Court Promenade and the Guild and Centrelink Courtyards. They included Apple, Cadbury-Schweppes, Red-Bull, Smiths, Peters & Brownes and over 70 Guild Club Stalls run by enthusiastic students ready to recruit new club members.
Sideshow activities were also on O-Day’s schedule including eating competitions sponsored by Jesters & Pizza Haven, Martial Arts demonstrations and a Tooheys Velcro Fly Wall! Not to mention all the free-giveaways visitors could collect!
One lucky student won the major prize of a personal parking spot on campus in the Guild's Early Bird Sign-Up Competition. The Early Bird Competition is still running with major prizes up for grabs. Visit our Competitions page for more details.
Live entertainment at the Guild Tavern, featuring Downsyde and the Sunshine Brothers, brought the curtains down on what was a fulfilled and very exhausting day on campus.
Feedback from students and members of the Curtin community has been proudly received and appreciated. The Curtin Student Guild looks forward to a consistent service for their members and Curtin students throughout the remainder of 2007.

Membership Success
The Guild’s ‘Get On Board’ Campaign was an exciting lead up to Orientation Day. With posters, displays and publications decorated in a ‘planes, trains & automobiles’ theme, the Guild wanted to communicate the organisation’s enthusiasm for campus life, being part of a Guild that takes you places as well as assisting students in areas of academic and personal development throughout their tertiary journey.
The transition to Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU), which was first experienced by the Guild 1995, saw the Guild have 1586 members for that year. Last year saw another transition from an Amenities and Services Fee (ASF) environment to a VSU environment. With a much stronger position within the University, the Guild had already exceeded the previous VSU record before the first week of 2007 Semester 1 classes.
Membership stalls are still located around campus for students to sign up. With more options for payment of fees to accommodate the student budget, students are given every opportunity to become Full Guild Members of their Guild in 2007.
