Elections 2017

The Guild Elections are held annually in September to elect the members of the next years Guild Council and delegates to the National Union of Students Conference.

NOTICE OF ELECTION
Nominations are invited from interested and eligible persons for the following positions in the 2017 Annual Guild and NUS elections:
  • President
  • Education Vice President
  • Activities Vice President
  • General Secretary
  • Curtin Business School Representative
  • Faculty of Science and Engineering Representative
  • Faculty of Health Sciences Representative
  • Faculty of Humanities Representative
  • International Students Committee President
  • Postgraduate Students Committee President
  • Queer Officers (two persons must nominate together)
  • Women’s Officer
  • Indigenous Officer
  • Students with Disabilities Officer
  • Guild Councillors (10)
Other Positions:
  • National Union of Students Delegates (NUS) (7)
POSTAL VOTE APPLICATION
Postal vote applications may be made to the Curtin Student Guild Office on the form available from the office or published in GROK: Election Edition. Postal Vote Application forms can also be downloaded below. A completed signed and witnessed application form must be received by the Returning Officer not later than 5.00 pm Friday 15 September 2017.
POLLING
Polling will take place on the Bentley campus at Atkinson Forum (opposite the Koi Pond) between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm on Monday 18 September 2017 and Tuesday 19 September 2017, Wednesday 20 September 2017 between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm and Thursday 21 September 2017 between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm.

    • This handbook has been produced by the Curtin Student Guild for the benefit of all potential candidates in the Guild elections. If you intend to participate as a candidate in the elections, it is essential that you become fully acquainted with its contents.

Roll close for the Guild Members is 9.00 am Monday 7 August 2017 and
Roll close for electors for the 2017 Annual Guild and NUS elections is Friday 25 August 2017 at 5.00 pm.

LODGEMENT OF NOMINATONS
Nominations, completed in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Guild, must be lodged in a sealed envelope with the Returning Officer in person, or by placing into the locked nomination box located in the Curtin Student Guild Office or posted to the Curtin Student Guild at the above address, to be received not later than the close of nominations, 12:00 noon Thursday 31 August 2017. Prospective candidates wishing to nominate outside Curtin Student Guild business hours, must first contact the Returning Officer to arrange a suitable time to lodge a nomination or other prescribed form. No nomination can be accepted later than 12:00 noon Thursday 31 August 2017. You may include a policy statement of up to 500 words. You may also include a recent passport size head and shoulders photograph.  Your photo and statement should be emailed to the Returning Officer at david.payne@waec.wa.gov.au. If this is not possible, contact the Returning Officer to make alternate arrangements.. A nomination deposit of $10 per candidate is required, payable in cash and must accompany the nomination(s) form(s). A refund of the deposit will be made to all candidates elected.
No nomination deposit is payable for NUS nominations. 

LODGEMENT OF GROUP REGISTRATION FORMS
Group Registration forms shall be lodged with the Returning Officer in person or by placing into the locked nomination box located in the Curtin Student Guild Office to be received not later than the close of Group Registration, 12:00 noon Thursday 31 August 2017. 
 
DRAW FOR BALLOT PAPER POSITIONS AND ALLOCATION OF COLOURS
The draw for ballot paper positions and allocation of colours will take place at 9.00 am Friday 1 September 2017 in the Guild Offices.
